French knots are really really nice stitches that are really really (because is really! :D) looks great on embroidery art. Especially when you’re doing floral/botanical themed designs. French knots are, I must say, a must-haves. Here are simple steps to do this:

a. Push the needle up through the starting point. Wrap the needle with the thread. Spin once or twice (wrapping your thread in the needle), but can be more.

b. Point the needle just beside the starting point. While pushing the needle hold down the remaining part of the wrapped thread using your free thumb (this will keep the wrapped thread in place).

Frenh Knot Step 1

c. Push down the needle. You can release when remaining thread reached your thumb. Making sure the wrapped thread is intact.

Frenh Knot Step 1

d. This now will look like a round knot.

Frenh Knot Step 1

e. Repeat steps a to c in another starting point to make more knots.

It may take practice to master French knot, but it’s fairly easy and simple. You can make more than one knot at a time, this will give your embroidery more texture and volume. Try doing it in increasing manner. There you go! Enjoy French knotting! 🙂
